So, I've been playing with my compressor...

I've moved house and mostly unpacked everything now. Whilst I was unpacking my air compressor I thought I'd have a quick check to make sure it works

It seems that when I use the compressor the balloons don't get as big as when I blow them by mouth. The blue ones in the photo are the same balloons, 12", the one on the left I blew up, the one on the right was done on the compressor. I stopped when they both started to neck and were really firm to the squeeze. As you can see... the one I blew up got huge...

Anyone else found that they can take balloons further when blowing rather than using a pump?

    Of course

Yes. A lot further usually. I guess the heat allows the material to stretch a lot more. It's really noticable with inflatables too, especially the smaller beachballs. Which is why I almost always prefer to blow. Plus it's way more fun...

Ok, contribution time. For my own amusement I took a couple of balloons (pretty sure qualatex) that had previously been inflated and blew one up by mouth and the other an electric inflator. Using Vicci's scientific method of being 'really firm to squeeze' it seems there is little or no difference!

The left one I blew up, the right the inflator. The shape is slightly different but the size is pretty much equal. So there ya go.

(Yes, both probably could have gone a little further but they were pretty tight by that point and had been lying around a while so i'm fairly sure would have popped with another couple of breaths.)

I'll maybe try some inflatables if I have time.

you know what I believe about those compressors aren't that strong. me and my friend had one and he claim to say it wasn't blowing the inflatable up so I said give it hear I turned it on and put it in my mouth and blew. I could blow a lot harder than the compressor could.

I'm talking proper workshop air compressor, like this. It will destroy any balloon and inflatable you put on it

Yeah the small electric inflators aren't particularly powerful but actual air compressors a la Vicci's post definitely are. Also you wanna be careful doing that shit...

I'm in the mood to do more now. I think on my days off this week I will be mostly inflating a bunch of Q16s to, and probably past, the limit by mouth and pump...

I like to blow (then pop) up large inflatables. I use a small Shop-Vac and just plug the hose into the backward (or blowing) flow. I find it gives a nice steady flow of air but makes you wait a bit for that pop! Just a thought...oh and use duct tape to hold everything in place better!

My favorite thing to do is to blow up the balloon by mouth a couple times nice and tight to stretch it out and then use the inflator. They get HUGE like that! The fast inflation is really exciting for me, especially when the neck inflates really big. I use a portable air mattress inflator though and it's strong enough to blow them up but not strong enough to pop them (at least none have popped from it yet), so I just turn it on and let the balloon get as big as possible without really worrying about it popping.

I use an inflatable bed compressor to inflate my 48" Cloudbuster to almost max then finish it off myself. I just love that it takes on a life of its own when fully inlfated

For me, they seem to actually get larger by inflating them with a pump than by mouth, using Unique 36" balloons.

Well, this is what I spent some of today doing...
                      bl1.jpg

Left mouth, right pump. Two blow to pops for each method before these two.

There was a lot of blowing today

I used sometimes cylinder filled with carbon dioxide to pump punchball balloons. When the balloon pumped up I assumed tights in another room. So great fear balonw pump with mouth.
