    Stenciling designs onto balloons

I couldn't find a GL700 with the print I wanted online, and custom printed balloons - especially non-standard ones - are expensive. So, I found a similar design online, cut it out, and stenciled it onto a pink GL700 with a sharpie.

(My apologies in advance for blurry pictures!)

    The base image: here

After cutting it out (I skipped facial details, too small...)

    Tracing with sharpie...

    The result!

    ...and inflated!

Overall it worked pretty well for a first attempt. It came out smaller than I had hoped, and I had to retrace the lines once (too light before) but other than that it looks really nice

This is why balloons are usually at least partially inflated before the print is applied. You would need a bigger sheet of paper if you were to do that with a GL700 though

The problem with doing that with a sharpie is that when it deflates, the ink comes off and makes a mess :/

Next time I'll probably just use a larger stencil and trace it twice, or trace it, inflate it, deflate it, and retrace it (like I did this time)

I never thought of that. I'll have to give it a try!

You could stencil uninflated, then trace once it is mostly blown up. Better for popping if you worry about the ink making a mess.

Definitely do try it! It looks pretty great and took about an hour total for me!

The problem with that is that the pen can pop balloons if you're not careful. When deflating a balloon, it doesn't fully deflate (it's still stretched out) so I just traced it after one inflation, which worked perfectly.

I think for my next try I'm going to 3D print the stencil so A) I don't have to manually cut it out and B) I can get a lot more fine details in. I'll probably also trace it two or three times before I inflate the balloon, so that it comes out darker the first time.

It's really easy too! Just find a good stencil, scale it in Microsoft Word or another program, print, cut, and trace!

Did you do it by hand? I think it came out well from the pics.

Sorry to bring back an old thread,

But I'm actually playing with screen printing on balloons. I've always loved big printed balloons, and I wanted a few prints of my own. I'm doing this in my shop, so small quantity (Not 1000's like some printers require) and I can print whatever I want.

I'm not sure if I can do long balloons, but I'm pringing round ones (16", 24" and 36") and selling them on my Etsy shop.

Right now I'm catering to the Furry Balloon Fetishists, but open to anything! I've got an Etsy shop. take a look!

                            Thanks
