Anyone tried using noise cancelling headphones when popping balloons (such as BTP)? Did it work or you could still hear the bang?

Re: noise cancelling
Noise cancelling headphones are very good at cancelling predictable noises. So the fan or airco unit will be cancelled very good. I am shocked every time I put off my noise cancelling headphone on how good it filters this noise.
However, on sudden noises it doesn't work that good. I have an over ear headphone and this one damps the sound quite a bit. However you still hear the pop if you use it with noise cancelling on (and without music). It is similar to using quality ear plugs in my opinion.
I was hesitating to buy my device, because I thought it was quite expensive. Now I have it and I think it is definitely worth the money. I didn't buy it for use during balloon popping. It can be used for that, but is not a lot better than earplugs. (Of course you could combine those two, which should really reduce the popping a lot).Comment

Re: noise cancelling
I have some noise cancelling earbuds, but I also fly in a wind tunnel a fair bit, so I always have a jar of cheap single-use earplugs around as well. I find the earplugs work better than the earbuds for reducing ambient noise, so I generally use those when the possibility of popping is involved.Comment

Re: noise cancelling
If you are looking for something to block out only the loud pop, there are some options out there for active hearing protection that essentially blocks all the sound but they has a mic and amplifier to allow all the sound to come through, so you can have a conversation, etc. The in the ear solutions can be very expensive but lots of inexpensive over the ear options. Re: noise cancelling
Would the hearing protection designed for shooters work for this ?
I’ve seen some that allow regular speech and hearing, but immediately react to the shot noise and kill sound.
I have not tried them myself, but they might work.
Given they are designed for short sharp noises.Comment

Re: noise cancelling
I wear Airpod Pros with active noise cancelling (ANC) while inflating balloons on a pump, which helps with the noise and unexpected bangs.
ANC works best while listening to music. I recommend some house music with heavy bass.Comment

Re: noise cancelling
Headphones with loud music works for me. They soften that loud bang if balloon pops, but I can also listen to music when going wild with my balloons. And it's always does it's magic when I want to feel like in a disco with my balloonsMy lovely balloons - love them so muchComment

Re: noise cancelling
Electronic (not noise cancelling) hearing protection is absolutely game-changing. Even if the batteries fail, your hearing is still protected because the electronics are only there to let you hear the quieter sounds around you. The bang is reduced to a very quiet pop but you can hear everything else almost as if the hearing protection wasn't there.Comment
