Re: Newbie defect question

Just for further information, these defects are often from air-bubbles in the latex dipping tanks. Which is basically a process quality problem. This is why we like the brand name balloons we do as...

Re: Silly curiosity

The display was designed to look like a mass of bubbles, so exclusively round balloons were chosen; a Cattex long-neck would not have worked at all. Some were under-inflated to achieve in-between...

Re: Opinions about qualatex 16

Qualatex are also consistently high quality. It's very rare to find one with any sort of problems. Uniques don't have such a good track record and neither do Tuf-tex.

Re: First thing you did on your own?

I really can't remember what my first balloon thing was when I finally had my own place. But I do know it took me a few months to realize that I had the whole apartment to use! :-D After that, I...

I just realized something about me and my stash

I currently have more uninflated balloons in packets than I have ever had. So much so that I forget what I have, despite attempts to organise them!

My latest purchase often lives with the...

Re: Best 36-inch balloon?

Other than the 24", Qualatex ballons 16" or bigger have a reputation for being difficult to neck. Their 30" balloons are known for not necking.

Re: US Unique 16" Sources?

Mellyloon's printed balloons are Unique 16s. And Mellyloon is in the US.

Probably not really the answer you're after.

Re: Besides loving to blow balloons big and hard

I like combining balloons and clothing. The other think I like is rubber inflatable clothing, but that gets expensive really quick, so I don't have very much.

Re: How do you measure the size

The chair-and-wall technique is the usual one for the looner. Another guide for the more huge balloons is a doorway. I've had 36" balloons inflated far enough that they couldn't fit through the...

Re: rated size vs actual size of loons

I think it depends on the brand to some extent, too. I don't have trouble getting Uniques to their rated size, particularly 16"s which easily get larger. OTOH Qualatex always seem to be over-specced,...

Re: blow to pop balloon

I love the idea of a printed balloon commanding the blower to go all the way! Especially 16" balloons. But as a non-popper, I'm afraid I have never tried to do that.

Re: Untimely pop

Yeah, happened a few times to me. It's a bit complex to explain, but I was essentially humping a giant under-inflated balloon, but it was inflated unevenly and multiple times. So of course it burst....

Re: Best 36-inch balloon?

I think "best" is highly subjective. I have some Chinese ones that great because of how soft they are - but they can be fragile and they're noticeably not spherical. More like a cross between...

Re: New purchase tips

I've never had problems with Unique 16"s being prone to popping. Even after repeated inflations. But then, I probably never inflated them enough to seriously neck, either. I quite like them for being...

Re: Is it possible to print on balloons at home?

Home balloon printing kits are not hard to find. For instance, https://www.balloon-printing.com/screen-printing-kit.html

Most of the difficulty is in creating the mask for the silk-screen.

Re: Balloon shipping to Aus and local balloon shopping

I don't buy balloons that often but I seem to recall that shipping from Europe is a little better than from the US. Though if you can find what you want in SE Asia, the shipping is much better again....

Re: What do balloon manufacturers think of looners?

Balloons United do balloon printing. (Where else do you think the get their mis-print bags from? :-) ) And they're pretty obviously looners.

Plus there are smaller balloon printing shops. I had...

Re: Balloons that you want but can't have

Good point about "first". I meant mid to late 80s here in Australia when they first appeared in novelty stores.

Re: Balloons that you want but can't have

Someone mentioned CTI punchballs... I remember when punchball balloons first appeared on general sale. They were much thicker than the ones you find now and had a knobble on the end for the elastic,...

Re: How many loons do you keep inflated at any given time?

It varies for me, too. I might have months with none, and then over a few weeks put up half-dozen. Currently, I have two Tuf-Tex crystal 14"s taped to a bookshelf for some more colour in the room. I...

Re: Silly curiosity

Creative balloon display artists can use all sizes. We had a big professional display put up at work a few months ago. It was a big abstract shape of balloons in the corporate colours. I took a...

Re: Quiet Balloon Pumps

Aquarium air-pumps are not a bad idea. I wouldn't use one designed for water as pumping water and air is quite different.

I have a very small one and it will fill a 12" balloon in a few minutes....

I've realized why I like 16" balloons.

Particularly the teardrop-shaped ones that Unique make.

Ever seen a little kid chase a balloon down a hallway and notice how the kid is often not much bigger than his balloon? Well, for us...

Re: My biggest dream: flying with a cluster of helium balloons

:-D

The helium life raft was interesting and unusually, I think it was a build that was under-engineered by the team.

To me, the two balloon myths the build team did were particularly special....

Re: Balloons as decoration

That's what I found, too! Years ago when I first had my own place, I used to leave balloons inflated. One day my parents came over when I had a lone 30" balloon lurking around. Dad was fascinated by...
