And even better you chose a "authentic" setting and gave a good introdution for the main character and his fellings/whishes.

This one did not leak(stayed like this for almost 24h). But I think the weak-spots are the seams rather than the vinyl itself.

But I didn't inflate it super...

Are you sure water can cause this?
As the effect occured a day later. Maybe it is just the vinyl stretched to the max. causing the polymer to change characteristics.

regualr sizes like 20-24" only take a short wihlea: aprox. 3-5 Minutes. Depending on the valve size. Some have these stupid smal valves that create a lot of backpreassure..

like craggy said, linflatables can last for a very long time, if you take care of it. Other than latex balloons, vinyl is less likely to "wear out". Maybe UV radiation will cause some demage over...

Two more methods I can think of.

One would be to use "natrual" resourses by doing the stretching in the sun. The sunlight heats up the inflatable and makes it quite a lot softer. Add more air...
