A good read (I hope) - do you believe in fate?

    Hello everyone,

Got some time to kill, so I thought I'd share this story of what was - looking back on it now - the truly defining moment of the development of my balloon fetish. It was over 20 years ago, as I'm in my late thirties now, and can only be put down to an incredible coincidence, or perhaps even fate

I grew up in London and was 14, I think, when I purchased my first ever "porno mag" in the good old pre-internet days of the mid-1990s. I actually bought it from a school friend whose older brother had bought it from a corner shop (convenience store). I paid a premium to get my hands on it, and it was in mint condition - not, ahem, "used" in any way. It was a copy of "Razzle" for those in the U.K to remember, and what was contained inside would have a very profound effect on me.

In one section of the magazine, there was the usual spread of a model - an attractive blonde. However, mixed in with the pictures were reader's letters to the model herself and her replies. Naturally, there was the usual "I'd like to fuck you this way or that" and her typical flattering responses. Then mixed in was what I now know to be letter from a total LOONER!

He went on describe how he'd like to see her naked in a room full of balloons, popping them with her nails, sitting on them etc. etc. I couldn't believe my eyes! I used to have the letter and her response practically memorized. Her response was great and she even referenced another man she knew (Ken of Hants - I'll never forget that name) who was also into balloons. She ended her response with "Next birthday, I promise to give it a go".

Now, I'm not saying this started my balloon fetish. I had already developed a sexual tendency towards balloons, but you can only imagine what it did to it's development!!! It legitimized my feelings, and crucially for so many looners, I learnt I wasn't the only one. It made it all less weird for me. We forget so easily how in the pre-internet age (as I have read from so many other Looners) it was next to impossible to know you weren't alone, or let alone see any Looner material - I don't think intentional Looner porn even existed.

Looking back on this episode now twenty-plus years later, I don't even know what to think. Seriously, what are the fucking chances I would stumble across a piece balloon fetish-themed writing in a totally mainstream pornograhic magazine in the mid-1990s that I bought at random? The odds are insane, was I just crazy lucky or was this something else? I don't tend to believe in fate, but ....

Whilst this is a lovely story, there's a high chance that the letter you read, was completely made-up by editors and writers for the magazine.

I'm afraid to say, that a lot of these adult publications made-up large numbers of their so-called "Reader's Letters" in-house by the staff who worked on the magazines, and vast numbers were not in fact from actual members of the public at all. They were entirely made-up works of fiction.

In fact, many adult publications still do this, for the simple reasons that:
    1) It's quicker and easier,
    2) The staff have control over the content, and
    3) They can make sure nothing breaks the law, in terms of that content.

I suspect that - alas, for you - Ken of Hants, was never a looner, nor probably even existed, except in the editor's/staff's imaginations.

For me it was the December 1973 "Playboy". A roommate had a copy, and leafing through it I came upon "Belle of the Balls" - a beautiful female holding in front of her two of the biggest clear balloons I had ever seen, probably Q16s. That gave me a clue that possibly I wasn't the only male who found balloons sexy.

I don't know about in the UK, but over on the other side of the pond, people will often make a snarky response to an unlikely tale that goes something like, "Dear Penthouse, I never thought it would happen to me..." This being a reference to exactly this same practice by Penthouse magazine, whose editors were sometimes not exactly imaginative in the form of their made-up correspondence.

Thanks for commenting and glad you liked the story.

Rest assured, BalloonBoyUK, my world is not crashing down at the revelation that the whole "reader's letters" with "replies from the models" could well have been totally fake.

The thought has certainly always crossed my mind. In fact, even as a kid I was highly suspicious of the "reply" from the model, given the literary capabilities of most adult magazine models.

Let's assume the letter and reply were both fake. It still, in my opinion, it is rather remarkable that the editors / writers of the magazine choose to do a balloon fetish letter. After all, it was virtually unheard of at the time. Whatever prompted them to do it? Someone heard of it somewhere and the sheer shock / weirdness factor?

It also still doesn't change the crazy odds that a balloon fetish reference was in the very first pornographic magazine I ever bought over twenty years ago.

            True, it doesn't.

If I'm not mistaken the Balloon Buddies mailing list started in 1976! So, it was in operation by snail-mail, before most of us in here were even born! Plus, I suspect that balloons have been used as modelling props for decades. So, it wouldn't surprise me in the least, if someone just saw a balloon one day, whilst out-and-about, and then thought "Hmm. Ballooons. Rubber. Latex! Similar in shape to a woman's breast. Ker-ching!" LOL

It's not unlikely that that is what actually happened. After all, these were people working in the adult industry. I'm sure they've seen just about every kink, fetish and sexual niche ever devised, at some point, and have even thought (and produced work) of many that became actual fetishes.

There are roughly six to seven billion people in the planet. I doubt there's a fetish/kink in the entire existance of Planet Earth, that someone, somewhere hasn't thought "Am I the only one, who digs this?"!

If it's possible, someone, somewhere will have attempted to do something dodgy to it, with it, or any combination of the two! LOL

It's like people sticking things up their bums. I doubt there's a single nurse/doctor, who's not seen or heard of every single household object being used and inserted, and then some poor git has had to go into hospital, and then say "I was just doing the cleaning, when this went up my behind"! LOL

I remember a letter to Men Only, back in the 80's.
It thanked them for a set with a model and big balloons. Editors reply was along the lines of "Yeah, that was over a year ago".
Made me think about ordering back issues until I found the right month.
Also, a couple of years previously, the cover of another top shelf magazine caught my eye. It featured an attractive young lady posing with what looked like bigger than normal, very tightly necked balloons. This was in my early teens when I had absolutely no idea if anyone else had the same reaction towards overinflated latex light bulbs that I did (actually at that time I was terrified of popping, and tended to underinflate).
I seem to recall that while balloon pics were few and far between in adult magazines, quite often they featured either larger or necked balloons.
              Made me wonder a bit.
              Then, along came the internet.

                nrpratt & Whoopsapopperlips,

                Thanks for commenting.

It's crazy how the internet has changed everything- where you can now get material for pretty much any balloon fetish niche you care to see. All at your fingertips.

I'm not that old, but old enough to remember the pre-internet / and even early internet days where you would go nuts if you by chance came across any photo shoot with a girl standing next to a balloon!

There's a famous PlayBoy shoot from the 90s where the model is even digging her fingers into balloons and in one shot has one underneath her. I remember a few over my teenage years. I like inflatables too, so any shoot of a girl on a pool float or with a beach ball was treasured too. They were somewhat more common.

I forget what magazine it was, but in the 90s I saw a shoot where the girl was naked on a large space hopper. The bright color and shiny glare was amazing.

I have to say that now we are so spoiled by comparison. You'd be so happy and blow your load over a picture of a naked girl with a couple of small balloons on the ground near her as nothing more than "props". Now, I wouldn't even that pic a second glance!

I remember this number of PB well because I also loved exactly that picture. Somewhere I still have the electronic copy of that photo.

A 1970s United Airlines ‘Come Fly With Me’ print ad in Nat. Geo., with a beautiful blonde stewardess holding about a half-dozen helium balloons.... A couple weeks later seeing my classroom filled with these same balloons! Flash forward many years... Finding a copy of this ad in a collection of old Nat. Geo. magazines that were being thrown out. Yes... I kept that ad.

Razzle, that was pure tat. A cheap horrible mag. Men Only was where it was at. Men Only did a balloon fetish segment with a young mixed raced girl called Charmaine, that was hot. Also either Zoo or Nuts mag back before their demise did some balloon fetish material.
