I think a large part of the reason for non acceptance (at least at the individual level) is primarily due to personal behavior as one poster brought up above. Fetishes have a time and place, and inserting them into general conversation is not usually a good idea. I’ve received messages from quite a few members that are obsessive, over enthusiastic, or just downright creepy. It’s not a good image to project when trying to become accepted.

Another reason mabye is YouTube. If you look in a comment section of any video with balloons in it you can guarantee people will be asking can you pop the balloons or can you do another. I personally hate seeing this and it needs to stop if we want to be not viewed as creepy go to a porn website if you want to see a specific type of balloon popping. When a video has hundreds of comments saying pop balloons it makes us look creepy and possibly porn addicts it only takes a quick Google Search to find the answer to why are my commenters asking me to pop balloons. There nothing wrong with watching the videos and getting off to them but don't comment asking for more especially when the comment section is full of it. Another thing is when people post pictures of balloons on the internet somebody Will ask can you send the commenter the balloon it makes us look so creepy it's not a good look. I am not saying we are the only community that does it just look at a YouTube vid with feet in it god it makes me cringe but what I am saying is we can be different and stop doing it I'm not blaming any specific person but when you watch a YouTube video with balloons don't go asking for loon popping when the comment section is full of other people saying the same thing and don't go onto peoples social media pics asking for the balloon sorry if this is ranty but it doesn't make us look good and I feel sorry for people that post videos of loons that are full of comments asking for more and the your sexy you should pop balloons comments same as the videos where someone is bare feet and the people in the comment s all say your feet are sexy do bare feet vids it's so thirsty and uncalled for the only thing worse is when it's a kid doing the video and there agreeing to do more

Agreed. People don't ask for sexual related videos of people in general because it's harrassment and pretty creepy, why should the balloon fetish be an exception? I feel terrible seeing loads of thirsty commenters on Youtube asking for balloon videos. It's only a minority of people but it puts the wrong impression on the minority.

Re: Reasons behind this fetish being called weird

Before you start talking about some kind of huge coming-out movement calling for acceptance, bear in mind that there are LITERALLY hundreds of other sexual fetishes that would be considered equally, if not even more, weird by the mainstream community.

If you would look at other Youtubers doing seemingly innocent things of interest to THOSE groups you'll see that they too get inappropriate requests. We aren't a special group singled out or persecuted for our fetish - we're one of many that would appear somewhat odd to those not sharing our views.

I reiterate a point I've made previosly - sexual preferences are not something that necessarily must be shared with the world. Doing so comes off as pathetic and desperate cries for acceptance coupled with an invasion of privacy, which is just as frowned upon. The phrase TMI - Too Much Information - exists for a reason. People just don't want to know some things.
Isn't it enough to see the amount of material available on the net and think "hell yeah, I'm NOT alone"?

Do yourselves a favor and scroll through the rather long list of categories at
Download over 7,000,000 adult amateur porn fetish sex hardcore movies, videos and clips. 1200 fetish categories, 100k different studios. Clips4Sale.com has everything from anal sex to tickling videos. The largest collection of fetish videos and amateur porn video clips. Hardcore amateur fetish sex videos.

ALL those are legitimate fetishes, and when did you ever in your life hear anyone admit to anything more specific than "I like blondes" or "She's got nice legs"?

If it helps, you can think of your fetish as something like your "true name" or equally personal secret, something that is not intended to be shared beyond a very intimate circle. Sexual partners are really the only ones that should be told, and even then only after reaching a comfortable level of intimacy.

Or to put it another way, do you REALLY want the world to start mocking looners openly and frequently? Look what happened to the furries after their conventions became common knowledge.
Don't tell me it would be great having pictures of guys holding balloons turned into memes intended to ridicule and deride. Because I guarantee that would be the most notable outcome of any "looner rights movement".

Yeah, we absolutely do not want what has happened to the Furry community to happen to the looner community.

I didn't mean it against you personally - it's just that I've seen this kind of talk pop up now and then over the years and thought I'd better cover all levels of awareness while I was at it. "You" is, after all, a general term that can encompass many people.
Sorry if you thought it aimed at you specifically - your view is much more moderate than some others I've seen.

Still, acceptance for all kinds of kinks in general is WAY up compared to previous decades. If we just go slow we might be able to be on the radar and be accepted with a knowing nod while no more is done about it, apart from some amusing or arousing reference in some show or movie. That, I feel, would be a nice turnout!

I'm sorry for snapping like that I just want a world that'd dosent blink an eye at fetishs unless there harmful thats all. I see where you are coming from though since there are other fetishs they would get attention to. I guess another part of it is I rarley get privacy so I can't fully explore anything. I'm not saying that we should be outside humping loons all the time but I want to be able to buy balloons and be able to say if asked why I'm buying why. Or if I see a random balloon on the street that isn't actually part of anything taking it and recycling it in our way at home would not cause any funny looks. Again I'm really sorry I should not have taken that personally and did what I did I'm just having trouble bottling up things I like and my career is being forced onto a path I don't like because of one tutor again apologies its my fault

Re: Reasons behind this fetish being called weird

Let's not think of that as a disagreement, merely a misunderstanding. I AM with you on many points, and there is one observation I just made that always makes me smile since it seems such a constant through all the years I've visited forums - and I know this feeling very well since I felt it too for a long time!
Namely, the constant fear that people will ask WHY someone buys balloons.
It's our own shame talking, I guess. The trepidation of being left speechless. Maybe of not having a good excuse handy. The reasons are many but the fear's the same. I think THAT is a big part of why many call for better visibility, so they wouldn't have to live with that silent, constant worry of discovery.

The thing is that party store clerks want to make a good impression, appear like they take an interest - and since many people who are planning a party look forward to it with joy and a certain pride, asking about the usage is a good way to break the ice.
In other words, they ASSUME you're having a party or other function.
If you want to have an absolute truthful answer that works wonders, try "Oh, it's just for a small celebration. Nothing special." After all, it IS a small celebration of your own sexuality!
Should they still press for details, give them a smile and say "I've been asked to keep it a secret" - which, as of this post, is another absolute truth.
That mindset helped me get rid of MY shopping anxiety - your mileage may of course vary, but remember that no one will assume you're buying them for anything but decorative purposes unless you actually enter wearing a shirt saying "I Hump Balloons" - and if you're brash enough for that, you probably don't care what they think either...

I've watched forums for other kinks and the same problem is evident there - since the fetishist himself (or herself) is so very, very, aware about what the object in question is going to be used for, it's easy to think everyone else will be too.
They aren't, unless they share the interest - and in that case they won't be judgemental.

I will have to use that excuse now it's so good. I don't think of it as a misunderstanding as the idea isn't happening so its mainly just throwing ideas out there lol.
I have always had a dream of opening a normal balloon and partyware shop but with a twist a Looner stock back room and a test room only for inflating and feeling no popping or humping stuff like that it. The fetish store would not be advertised publicly and theres no acsess unles your a Looner. The back room would be advertised on here and places like fetlife so only Looners and other kinky people know About it. What do you think of. It? My only problem would be handing over the loons and I would not employ any one else so I can clean up and have stock to my self lol. It's an idea for the future

Harley, you make a very good point. I used to be worried about buying balloons in the size and quantity that I enjoy, but the reality is, nobody else is gonna think anything of it. Ever. You’re walking into a store that sells them, they’re expecting someone to buy them.

I agree with you 100% on this. The balloon fetish is one of the worst examples of the problem; you don't often see creeps typing comments on videos about leather products (BDSM), diapers (AB/DL), or any other kink that involves seemingly innocent objects. It's even worse when young kids (<12) are the ones being targeted.

Always funny to see well-educated English speaking Americans typing like an Indian telemarketer.

People that do this on videos have no empathy either do they not think that there going to get weirded out or get tired of the same comments. The worst part is with kid videos is if you see a weird comment requesting something 99.9% of the time it's a fetish related. I'm curious what do you the worst example of this is Is? I always thought it is looners and foot people that do it the most
