I was concerned about all of that as well, but then I compared it to maryland. Cost of living in the top 10 highest in the country. We have similar government/politics here too, always in your business and trying to find a new way to tax you (they tried pushing a “rain tax” for a while which brought such outrage that a few counties refused or charged 1 cent in protest). The weather is the worst though, the humidity is oppressive even when it’s in the upper 70s, plus the scenery is mediocre and the architecture is mostly shit. I know California has its faults but the perfect blend of weather, scenery, architecture and culture sold me.
